Trans fat battle

I was watching the news today and a piece cam on about trans fat. The idea is to ban trans fats in New York City and other cities are also debating the topic. They say that it is ok because heart disease is a big killer of Americans. I disagree. It should not be up to the government to tell us what we should and should not eat. I do not like to eat trans fats myself, but I have made that decision myself. I don't feel the need to have the government force that on me. What is next since diabetes is such a problem in the USA, do we ban sugar and force people use splenda. Trust me I am all about getting people healthy and making America more skinny. But call me old fashioned but I just think the government needs to stick to running the country and the states and cities. When they get that down then worry about the fats im eating.

Gearing down, while gearing up

Well I just finished a stint of 3 overnight shifts a walgreens. I really like this shift, but I will like it better when it is permanent. I am now as my local coffee shop winding down and relaxing (really trying to stay awake). I am so stoked about this up coming weekend. I am going back to my old haunts. Back to the mountains of WV. Back to almost heaven. (only negative the wife will not be coming). It will be great to get out to copper's rock, to climb and to just hang with my friends and family. Not to mention the buckwheat festival. How fortunate!! I am mostly excited to see the old gang. And to have a day to spend with my old roommate Billy and my brother just doing the manly outdoors stuff. And seeing Nate poop himself when he goes climbing for the first time. It will be a great weekend that I know. Im just looking forward to seeing how.

A little short

Lately, I have been feeling a little short on time. I have been working and Tara and I are purchasing our first home. So needless to say my off time has been filled with paper work and running around. I finally have a day off and I have been enjoying the simple things. I got up and cleaned the house, read some bible and now im sitting at the coffee shop blogging and reading blogs. It is amazing how when you are busy you notice the clutter in your life more than when things are calm. My life and my apartment for that case have been very cluttered lately. I have not been diligent in the word and in prayer. My spirit was as cluttered as my apartment. But the nice thing was that I got today to do a little cleaning of both. To take some time and breath and to listen for God. Life is full of clutter only when we take the time to sit back and simplify and clean up the clutter do things become clear. Cleaning is hard work and the action itself is not very fun, but the results are great and worth while. So in this new beautiful fall we are beginning to experience take some time and clean out the closets of your soul. Trust me you will be glad you did.

Emptyness

Its amazing how a place can change and what a place can look like with out people. Normally in the picture above there are hundreds of people walking around, eating and conversing. Now its empty. It makes me think of the ebb and flow of our lives. We have moments of fulfillment and moments of emptiness. We live a life of inconsistency and change. It makes me rejoice and sit in wonder of the constancy of our God.

How often do we rely on the lives of those arounds us. Do we take for granted those things around us. Or like in this picture do we only notice them when they are gone?

The man, the myth, the legend

I just wanted to take a minute and post a blog about my good friend billly Williams. I was listening to his pod casts and he has really come into his own as a speaker. I have always been proud to call him friend and brother in Christ. But I just wanted to give this public shout out to him as an encouragement for him. So if you are ever in morgantown, wv and run into a long blonde haired Indian. That is the nicest guy you ever met. That would be him.

YMCA

I was listening to a radio program about the YMCA. And how the YMCA has kind of abandoned its C. Meaning it has left the Christian aspect of its mission behind. But apparently there is a push to bring that aspect of the Young Men's Christian Association back. Although it has not gained full recongnition nationally some regional branches are attempting to get back to the basics of what the YMCA was found on. In the program though one of the directors from California made the comment that if they started putting Christian things back in the YMCA it would make him feel excluded. This got me thinking. (always trouble). Is that not one of the things we are supposed to do as Christians. To make people see something in us that they are missing. In a way make them feel as if they have been left out of some awesome secret. And then part of the good news is that all are invited to join. That it is an open invitation. Is it not supposed to be our different lifestyle that sets us apart and gets people asking the question, what have they got that I don't? Peter talks about this when he says " have a ready defense for the hope that is within you". Maybe the problem is that we are not living in a manner that is different. Maybe we are not living a life that makes people want to have what we have. And friends that is sad. Because what we have is the single greatest gift in the world. We have the grace of God. So does your life reflect something different? Do your actions make other feel as if they are missing something? They should.
